Message from the founder of Indoclassical
Dear Connoisseur,

First of all I thank you for logging in to Indoclassical.com.

Through this message, I would like to tell you about the inception of Indoclassical.com & also share my thoughts, vision & aspirations and also what we wish to achieve through it.

The Inception

Indoclassical was conceived about two years back. In fact, I was going through an Article in a Newspaper which mentioned the very ordinary financial status of one of the better known Classical Vocalists of the nation. It was followed by another article in a Newsmagazine which said something similar about a great Classical Instrumentalist of the Nation.

In both the cases they had applied for help from the Government and awaited it. And when the help came it was too meager to be of any major worth.

This situation brought to the fore hardships which the musicians faced in their lives when they , on account of ill health & age, became incapable to perform or had to cut down on performances. Cutting down on the frequency of such concerts which by all means are an important way of earning livelihood for these Classical Artists resulted in lower incomes and hence the obvious followed.

It is no secret that apart from the top few Classical Musicians who have spent all of their lives into the service of music and can now be termed as relatively comfortable financially, other Classical Musicians are really not very well to do & do need more money, more help to carry out on with their lives.

Need felt for a Herculean effort

I would say that the Government does its bit and various trusts formed for this purpose have also been doing their part, yet somewhere there is a need for a Herculean effort. There is a limit on what the government can spend as it has other sectors and priorities on list as well where it has to spend. Talking about the Trusts, they do receive donations and spend it at the right places, but the kind of money needed to provide a sense of security for Classical Musicians as a whole might not be available in this trusts. Here a need exists to maximize the revenue & the funds these trusts receive, so that they are able to serve classical Musicians better...

Indoclassical conceived

The above situation & thoughts had been on my mind and I discussed them with some of the better known names in Indian Classical Music. They helped me frame an idea and I thought of developing and serving the cause by the way of launching a Classical Music Portal, by the name of Indoclassical.com.

What we aim at Indoclassical

At Indoclassical, we aim to serve the cause as stated above. But to do the same we need money. Earlier I thought of forming a trust which shall look after Indoclassical.com, but later I concluded that it would be better to just concentrate on music and help out the numerous Classical Music trusts who are already serving the cause for the past many many years.

Being a non profit organization, Indoclassical would straightaway contribute 10% of any revenue it receives from any of its sponsors, advertisers or associates to any of the deserving trusts as per their need. A mention of the contributor and sponsor's name would also be highlighted when Indoclassical makes this contribution, which would also be published on Indoclassical.com in the beneficiaries page. Rest of the funds go in towards meeting various expenditures, paying salaries etc.

Achieving our aim

We wish to achieve all we plan for- through the portal and by the way of Organizing Classical Music Concerts Worldwide, providing scholarships and by doing whatever comes our way which we feel should be done.

People who helped translate this dream into reality

Although there are a lot of persons to whom I am thankful to, but here I shall mention the names of those few who really made it possible.

Shri Bimal Lath & Smt Bimla Lath, with whom I discussed the concept first. They encouraged and helped me strengthen my resolve. Smt & Shri Vijay Burman of Bharatiya Samskriti Samsad who were so appreciative & promised me with their whole hearted support.

It is so important to have people by your side in the initial stages of a concept. It makes you believe that everybody is there to help you out and that only the first few steps are needed........

Then I would like to express my gratitude to Ustad Asad Ali Khan Sahab , Smt Shanti Sharma, Ustad Mazhar Ali Khan- Jawad Ali Khan & Smt Manorama Ahuja to guide & bless me.

Shri Rajiv Banerjee who was instrumental in the framing of this concept. My friend Arushi who gave me valuable inputs for the site.Shri Kumar Mukherjee for giving me very valuable tips.

Last but not the least, my family members who have always been with me & believed in Indoclassical effort.
