Genre
All four fingers, as well as the palm are used. Relas and gats are preferred to Peshkar and Qayada.

It is a mixture of Pakhavaj and Tabla Bols. It makes use of complex Bols, compositions and Laya, including Barabar, Ad (multiples/fractions of one and a half, eg. three fourth, three, six, etc.) Viad (multiples/fractions of three and a half) and Kuad (multiples/fractions of two and a half). Rare Taals like the Shultal, Pancham Sawari and Dhamar are also played.

Lala Bhavanidas, Haddu Khan, Fakir Baksh, Kader Baksh II, Karam Ilahi, Baba Malang, Allah Ditta, Allah Rakha,Shaukat Hussain, and Zakir Hussain represent the Punjab Gharana.
